You are such a very gifted writer. Thank you for sharing this painful, yet beautifully written, account of your journey. Vulnerability and honesty is never easy or fun to express, but it is powerful. And on a personal note, I'm so glad you not only got through this, but grew from the experience. Your words have encouraged me and I wish you nothing but peace and love my friend.
Thanks for sharing this. We all need to be more transparent. Someone who can relate really needed to see this for encouragement.
Believe it or not, I have been in a very similar place not too long ago. I could suffer through anything physically demanding, but getting emotionally/mentally ambushed is a completely different animal.
What a powerful and honest post. Thank you so much for sharing your humaness with us all 🙏 As a fellow ultrarunner, and a therapist, I too know of my own dark days and the shadow side of endurance sport...until we come through the other side. Sending you warmth and care from New Zealand 💓
Thank you for sharing! Running is my happy place. It enables my physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I stopped pushing myself and racing for over a decade because I was scared of losing it through the constant injuries. I still can't push myself like I used to because my #1 goal is stay healthy vs. achieving some time/distance goal - which is obviously not how you achieve greatness! I look forward to following your story and am sending positivity your way. You are not alone! Appreciate you!
“My fears weren’t mountain lions or exposure in the mountains, they were far scarier. They were about trust, abandonment and intimacy. They were what drove me toward fierce independence and long days alone on the trails, an ultra running superpower—but also a coping mechanism for some unhealthy patterns.” - I feel this right now. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing this with us and showing that open communication about our struggles and dark moments helps to bring us together and that’s what life is all about! You are helping to bring people together and show that everyone has their struggles and coping mechanisms for this wolf and crazy thing called life😉 we are all just human trying to make sense of this glorious world ❤️ love your courageous soul sister.
I followed your ultra streak with amazement and admiration. I had a running streak that ended 1 day short of 10 years when I needed an ablation to correct atrial flutter. Still haven't fully recovered and miss running. Thankfully I am able to run/walk at least a daily 10K. I was shocked to read of your recent set backs. Praying for your complete recovery as you continue to inspire.
Thank you, Candice, for sharing your journey through the last few challenging months. I can also relate to the times when injury prevents us from getting out there and feeling "free". The frustration is palpable. But you seem to have dealt with the dark times and pushed through it. You are young and your body will heal well. Keep looking forward, stay positive and reach for higher and better things.
Congratulations on your fantastic world record...I followed you all the way from Australia. Best wishes for all your future endeavours.
THANK YOU Candice for sharing your point of clarity - so meaningful!! I’ve been following your adventures, work and writing since your time in Western Australia and as much as I respect and admire your awesome achievements and contribution, I’ve loved seeing you strive to live your life your way, the right way. I especially appreciate you sharing your perspectives and learnings - as a leader and contributor to communities, and importantly as a member of those communities who also needs connection and support to thrive. May you stay close to the balance that makes you feel the best you!!
Thank you for sharing your story of healing from your trauma! Pray you continue on your healing journey! Glad you invited someone in to help you make sense of what you were experiencing! I followed your 200 ultras. Now onto doubles o. The bike! Great job. Keep up the healing ❤️🩹
I feel this to my core. I followed your journey, all the way. Sometimes the gifts that make us "ultra-human" are a detriment when we have to stop, rest, get off the horse and do the crushing inner work of just healing, grieving, being a complex soul in a quite fragile body.... I highly recommend Bravey by Alexi Pappas. I wish you all the best in healing and transformation! xx
